Monthly Sunday Sessions
Sunday, June 28th – San Lyon band and The True Stories at the Pismo Vets Hall
San Lyon band will be playing “Hot Swingin’ Jazz” at the Basin Street Regulars’ Sunday afternoon Concert, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 28th. The show will take place at the Pismo Beach Vets Hall. The Opening Band will be The True Stories band. There will be a jam session starting at 11:00 a.m. Bring your instrument and join in. Admission is $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers and $5.00 for jammers.
Feature Band — San Lyon is a Los Angeles-based Swing Jazz Quartet. Their music is a mix of early 20th century Parisian Gypsy Swing and American Jazz standards as well as original vintage inspired songs. The band’s colorful repertoire of French and English jazz has built an audience among many swing dance communities. They have performed at numerous clubs, private events, house concerts, and festivals like Jazz Bash by the Bay in Monterey, Hot Jazz Jubilee in Sacramento, the Django Birthday Festival in Berkeley, and the Dixieland Sounds of Mardi Gras in Fresno. With five albums under their belt, including a Christmas record, the Quartet just released a new album with twelve original songs titled “San Lyon and Friends.”
Members of the quartet are Paige Herschell from San Antonio, Texas, on vocals, melodica, kazoo and snare drum, Katie Cavera from Evansville, Indiana on bass, banjo, guitar and vocals, Jenna Colombet from Lyon, France on violin, bass, snare drum and French vocals, and Dani Vargas from Santiago, Chile on guitar and vocals.
Opening band — The True Stories is a newly founded traditional jazz band based in SLO County, led by trumpet player Andrew Chermak. They play an eclectic blend of red hot jazz, ballads, and Latin influences inspired by their vocalist and guitar player Maria Luzuriaga. Other members of the band include Mitch Latting playing washboard, Ron Phillips on trombone, Charlotte Belyea on sax, Terry Handy on double bass, Andre Copher on percussion, and Zachary Zeman on tuba.
