January 28th –- Carl Sonny Leyland’s Boogie Woogie Boys and #1 Cuesta College Jazz Combo at the Oceano Elks Club.
February 25th — The Starlight Dreamband from SLO, and San Luis Obispo High School Honors Jazz Band at the Pismo Vets’ Hall.
March 24th — San Lyon, a swing jazz quartet (with a Parisian Gypsy Flare!) based in Los Angeles, with the Righetti High School Band as the opener. At the Oceano Elks Lodge # 2504, 410 Air Park Drive, Oceano.
April 28th –- The Alpha Rhythm Kings from the SF Bay Area (big name dance band we have wanted to feature for some time!) plus Tevis Ranger Junior High Jazz Band, at the Pismo Vets Hall.
May 26th – Marci Jean and The Fever (Oh Yeah – She’s Back!). At the Pismo Vets Hall. Opening band is Valerie Johnson and the Voodoo Doo Dads.
June 30th – Ginger Pauley with the Hoosier Daddies playing vintage jazz with ’20s nostalgia – a nine piece band from LA! At the Pismo Vets Hall. Opening band is the Decomposing Brass Quintet.
July 20th SATURDAY – The Midiri Brothers at the Pismo Vets Hall. A very special event! Opening band is The Barrelhouse Wailers.
August 25th – BSR annual BBQ Backyard Show. Dave Stuckey and the Hot House Gang with the Oasis Ukulele Band as opener.
October 27-29 – A Special BSR – Central Coast Jazz weekend is in the planning stages!
SUNDAY SESSIONS GENERAL INFORMATION
Sunday Sessions begin with a Jam Session (for members and guests!) from 11:00 to 12:30. The Opening Act plays from 12:50 to 1:45 and the Featured Guest Band plays two sets between 2:00 and 4:00. Most Sunday Session Dance Concerts take place at the Pismo Beach Veterans’ Memorial Hall. See below for more general information or call 805-937-8402. MORE ON OUR SUNDAY SESSIONS
The BSR has over 300 members and many attend the club’s live jazz sessions at the Pismo Beach Veterans’ Memorial hall on the last Sunday of the month (holidays excepted). There is an open Jam Session at 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, and guest bands in two sessions from 12:50 to 4:00 PM. The Jam session is an opportunity for local musicians, including youth, to play together on stage and both teach and learn the ebb and flow of Traditional Jazz music. We host guest Traditional Jazz bands to perform for our members and guests. The bands are often World-Class and come from throughout the state from San Diego to San Francisco.
Food and drinks are served for very reasonable prices during the session to keep the members fortified. Menus are listed monthly in the newsletter. Dancing and socializing are encouraged! You may even see an impromptu New Orleans style parasol parade! Sometimes Jazz paraphernalia is for sale! Admission is only $10 for members of BSR and $15 for non-members.
