Youth  Scholarship  Program

BSR Youth Scholarship Program

We provide an environment where young people can learn to play Traditional Jazz and do improvisation in front of a live audience. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and we offer educational opportunities to both youth and young adults. Our Club has also sponsored youth bands to participate in the Sacramento Teagarden Jazz Festival (formerly named Traditional Jazz Youth Band Festival) held in February of each year. Some of these youth bands have become full-time musical groups, including the Red Skunk Jipzee Swing band featuring Molly Reeves and Justin Au, The New Low Down featuring BSR alumni Tasha Brittain and Justin Au, and the BSR Hotshots. These bands have all been featured at our own Jazz Jubilee by the Sea festival.

Every year, our club sends young people to the Sacramento Youth Teagarden Jazz Camp and/or the Cuesta College Jazz Workshop. For Sacramento, choose your week and your instrument and apply online to the Sacramento Youth Teagarden Jazz Camp. Then fill out the scholarship application provided by Basin Street Regulars. Apply early for this wonderful opportunity because popular instrument slots fill up fast.  Details for the 2024 Cuesta College Jazz Workshop are available by clicking on the link above.
